On February 22, 2003, Mike Tyson, after the loss to Lennox Lewis the year prior, fought Clifford Etienne at the Pyramid in Memphis, Tennessee. Tyson won the bout via first-round knockout. It would be the last time he would win a boxing match in his illustrious professional career. But the fight gained fame for a different reason.

Tyson truly arrived on the world stage with a nationally televised fight against Jesse Ferguson. After Tyson caught Ferguson with an uppercut that broke his nose, the result of the fight was clearly inevitable. Tyson won after Ferguson was disqualified for illegally clinching.
From 1999 to 2005, Mike Tyson continued fighting but did not win any title. Towards the end of his career, there was a rumor of Tyson going Bankrupt, which resulted in him firing his entire staff and hiring new ones. In June 2005, Tyson retired from boxing.
Meanwhile, he also added a twist to his face tattoo and was seen enjoying it during new Year’s eve. Tyson has been donning his iconic face tattoo since 2003. He inked it before his fight against Clifford Etienne.
Tyson’s sister died of a heart attack at the age of 24. His brother went on to become a doctor’s assistant at the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. He and Mike have remained in contact with one another, although their visits are infrequent. He also considers Jimmie Lee Kirkpatrick, son of Jimmy Kirkpatrick, his half brother.
“HBO had a tournament. I beat Witherspoon to win the WBA title, beat Trevor Berbick to win the WBC title and we fought each other. HBO was trying to have a box-off to have one champion and Mike ended up being the undisputed heavyweight champion. The media had him built up as an invincible person. We fought in Las Vegas, which is crazy under normal conditions, but fighting a guy like Tyson, it was a crazy situation. I guess I got caught up in the hype, I was bigger, stronger and smarter than Tyson. I could have beat him if I’d listened to my trainer. I backed up a little too much. He was able to slip punches and come back with combinations, he was real quick. He was strong inside, he was trying to rip his punches. If he’d been as big as I was, he’d really hurt guys. Being older helped, I was able to handle it because I’d been around a little while. He was good, you can’t become heavyweight champion of the world without being good. He was a small heavyweight, and I think the media had him built up and he was riding on that media hype. He worked it and made a lot of money off it.”
In 2002, Mike Tyson faced Lennox Lewis who was then the reigning champion with WBC, IBF, IBO and Lineal titles under his belt. Despite being a favourite of the pundits, Tyson lost the bout in the eighth round facing a knock out off the right hook. Lewis who had dominated the fight since the beginning was declared the winner. Tyson took the failure graciously and lauded Lewis skill for the game.
In October 1998, Tyson’s Nevada boxing license was reinstated and he returned to the ring the next year. When D’ Amato and Jimmy Jacobs died, Tyson get along with controversial person Don King. Tyson kept on to hold 10 times his heavyweight title, then are Larry Holmes and Michael Spinks. In 1988, Mike Tyson tied the knot with actress Robin Givens. They got separated in 1989 after the news of physical abuse against Givens. The assault and harassment charges against Mike Tyson were filed at that time. That was one of the biggest upsets in history when Tyson lost the championship match to James Douglas. Douglas won the match in the tenth round. Tyson then wins four matches in a streak. Mike Tyson was accused of raping a beauty pageant contestant and charged with the crime in 1992. When Mike Tyson was released from jail in 1995. He continued to play boxing and won two of the championship belts in matches with Bruce Seldon and Frank Bruno. On Nov 9, 1996, Tyson lost for the second time in his career in a match against Evander Holyfield. In their rematch, he was then disqualified after biting the other player’s ears. Holyfield lost the boxing license due to ear infarction.

The beautiful star of ABC’s “Head of the Class,” Givens represented class and sophistication to the newly crowned champ. To Givens, or at least to her mother, Ruth Roper, Tyson represented money—a lot of money. Tyson had earned millions of dollars in fight purses and television contracts, including a $26 million deal with HBO for a series of seven fights, signed in 1987. More unusually for a prize-fighter, he had honest management that had allowed him to keep the lion’s share of that money. After a whirlwind courtship, Tyson married Givens on February 7, 1988. Soon, she and her mother began to do a little house cleaning, banishing many of Tyson’s friends and closely questioning others about the state of his finances.
